Who is Tiffany Sia?

Tiffany Sia is an artist, filmmaker and writer who is based in New York. Born in Hong Kong in 1988, she graduated from Bard College in 2010 with a BA in film studies and Asian studies.

Sia has received the George C. Lin Emerging Filmmaker Award in 2022 and the Baloise Art Prize in 2024. She was also awarded a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship in 2009.

What are some of Tiffany Sia's recent projects?

Sia has written several books and essays dedicated to film studies, the politics behind film/photographic practices and the geopolitics of cinema and nationalist narratives. Her first publications, the books Salty Wet (2019) and Too Salty Too Wet (2020), were conceived in the aftermath of the 2019 protests in Hong Kong, as a type of anti-travelogue.

Her newest book, On and Off-Screen Imaginaries (2024), consists of a series of six essays which take a deep dive into the cultural landscapes shaped by national security policies. The book was published by Primary Information in New York. She is currently teaching at The Cooper Union in New York.
